Anodizing is an electromechanical process whereby an aluminum, architectural grille is placed in a water and sulfuric acid bath and exposed to positive and negative electrical charges. The process causes a conversion of the molecules on the architectural grille's surface which adds a thin protective layer of anodic material.

The change in surface material provides a durable, corrosion-resistant, easy-to-clean, and decorative finish that gives anodized aluminum grilles a rich character.

An anodized finish is preferred when your advanced architectural quality grilles will be used in a moisture rich environment, on a window or sill exposed to sunlight (UV light), for an outdoors application or for a floor grille which may be exposed to foot traffic or cleaning solvents. The Advanced Arch Grilles team can provide various anodized finishes including clear satin anodized, black satin anodized, and bronze duronodic anodized in both light and dark which provides a bronze, statuary look.

Depending on the Finish and Material of your hand crafted, architectural grille provided by Advanced Arch Grilles, there are a number of different cleaning options and techniques.

Aluminum Linear Bar Grilles

  • Satin – Rub grille lightly with a fine Scotch-Brite pad in the same direction of the grain until the finish is restored.  You can also use a cloth with a cleaner such as Windex, or simply use a soft damp cloth.

  • Mirror Polish – Polish the grille with Noxon, metal polish.  You can also use Windex or a soft damp cloth.

  • Baked Enamel – Please use ONLY a soft damp cloth, preferably cotton and please, absolutely NO cleaners.

  • Anodized Color – Please use ONLY a soft damp cloth, preferably cotton and please, absolutely NO cleaners.

  • Mirror Polish – Polish the grille with Noxon, metal polish.  You can also use Windex or a soft damp cloth.  It is best to use a light, circular motion.

Bronze Linear Bar Grilles

  • Satin (no protective top coat) – Rub grille lightly with a fine Scotch-Brite pad in the same direction of the grain until the finish is restored.

  • Satin (with protective top coat) – Please use a soft damp cloth ONLY.  Using anything other than a soft damp cloth will ruin the lacquer.

  • Mirror Polish (no protective top coat) – You can use Noxon to regain the mirror finish.  It is best to use a light, circular motion.

  • Mirror Polish (with protective top coat) – Please use a soft damp cloth ONLY.  Using anything other than a soft damp cloth may damage the finish.

  • Statuary Finish – Please use a soft damp cloth ONLY.  Remember, without a top-coat, the finish will naturally age to a fine tone and character.
